Extreme Weather
If a heat wave or a string of rainy days is getting you down, check out the list of global weather extremes compiled by the National Climatic Data Center. You'll discover that El Azizia in Libya recorded a temperature of 136° F on Sept. 13, 1922. Fans of frigid weather can ponder a reading of –129° F, measured at the Russian Vostok Station in Antarctica on July 21, 1983. For a truly wet spot, you can head for rain-soaked Lloro, Colombia, or going to the other extreme, experience the parched landscape of Arica, Chile.
