Eaglet Watch

For naturalists who would like to keep an eye on the national emblem but can't find a comfortable perch 60 feet above ground, here's the Web site for you. Northeast Utilities is posting a new image of a bald eagle's nest in Turners Falls, Mass., every 15 minutes, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. EST. A television camera mounted just above the nest provides an intimate glimpse of the nurturing of an eaglet born April 12. The chick should remain in its spacious, 800-pound cradle until at least August (note: the archive of photos on this site run to July 13, 1998). Elsewhere on the Web site, you can learn about how this nest fits into a project to reestablish these majestic birds in the Bay State.
