in a Bottle If 5 million LEGO pieces drop into the Atlantic, where might they wash ashore? The answer to this and other fascinating flotsam questions appears on the Beachcombers' Alert Web site. Oceanographer Curtis C. Ebbesmeyer and his band of sharp-eyed correspondents report on curious objects that get tossed in the ocean and finally run aground all over the world. Some items are sent into the drink intentionally, such as the 200,000 beer bottles that Guinness Brewing Ltd. released to celebrate its 200th anniversary. Others, like the LEGOs, get torn off ships by giant waves. Some objects roam the oceans for decades before finally coming ashore. Go to: http://www.beachcombers.org |
