The Fabric of the Human Body
Andreas Vesalius

Here, in the first complete textbook of human anatomy, Vesalius calls for dissection of human cadavers in order to understand human anatomy and correct inaccuracies in classic anatomy texts. He accuses Galen, in particular, of basing many of his conclusions on studies of animals. Illustrations show gruesome details of how Vesalius went to work at his well-attended lectures, performing autopsies and other dissections before crowds of students. 1543.
