Dobbins of the University of Virginia is leading a project to use computers to make three-dimensional models of structures found in the forum at the city's center. The project's fascinating Web site includes archival photographs and surveys of the archaeological site, first-hand accounts of the eruption, and newly discovered details of Roman engineering and construction practices.
