COMET FINDER. The small telescope used by Maria Mitchell to discover the Nantucket comet on Oct 1, 1847. Mitchell found the comet from the roof of the Nantucket's Pacific Bank building, in which her family then lived on the top floor, but the telescope now resides in the modest nineteenth-century house where she was born.
