The Hippopodius hippopus can grow up to 1.5 centimeters in length as it drifts in ocean currents such as those off the coast of Australia, where this specimen was collected. The orange structures take up food. This species is one of dozens of fragile plankton that have been observed in the ongoing Census of Marine Life.
