TUNE IN

The picture on the left shows an array of micromagnets, while the picture on the right shows light diffracting off of a wafer of the particles. The two magnetic disks (shown at left) are kept a fixed distance apart by non-magnetic spacers. By adjusting the spacing between the disks, researchers can tune the signal coming from the magnetic particles to corresponding colors on an MRI.
