DETECTING PERCHLORATE

This image taken on June 8 shows the Martian trench that could harbor perchlorate. The first sample detecting the compound was taken from the surface area just to the left of the trench. The second sample that confirmed the presence of perchlorate in the MECA instrument was taken from the center of the trench. The sample delivered to the dry oven instrument, TEGA, was not taken from this trench. Click on image for full story. Credit: JPL/NASA, University of Arizona, Texas A&M University
