BACTERIAL SNORKEL
A new study shows the bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa produces snorkel-like antibiotics that can also be used for breathing in cramped quarters. P. aeruginosa that lack the molecules grow in wrinkled colonies (one shown above), probably to increase the surface area to bring more bacteria in contact with oxygen.
