GEROBATRACHUS
Gerobatrachus hottoni lived about 290 million years ago. The species fits into a 50-million–year gap in the amphibian fossil record between primitive amphibians and the frogs and salamanders that subsequently evolved. Paleontologists have unearthed just one example of the species. Credit: K. Bendiktsen
