GALAXIES FAR, FAR AWAY

These postage-stamp images reveal 16 galaxies, imaged in visible light and infrared wavelengths by the Hubble Space Telescope. Analyses of the colors of the galaxies indicate they may be among the most distant known, residing about 12.9 billion light-years from Earth and hailing from a time when the universe was less than 800 million years old.
