A GOOD SPOT

The Mars Spirit rover happened to get stuck in a geologically interesting spot, photographed here by the rover. Spirit found that the soil in one spot it drilled (left circle) is rich in sulfates, but the soil in a spot nearby (right circle) is not. Spirit's left wheel is buried halfway in the soft soil (left side of image), but its right wheel is still perched on solid crust. Scientists will move Spirit next week, hopefully out of this spot.
