  • This is not the only cold case to be baffled about. The same type tools are being found in the USA but because the tools have been found by amateurs, they have not gained the attention of the mainstream. Like the tools shown in this article, they are of the middle paleo "type" with the only difference being that thousands of the tools have been exposed due to some unusual flooding in the heartland of the USA. Stone cores, core tools, points, blades , hand axes, burins ,ochres, scrapers, and bone tools, all from a single site testify to a technology more like the mousterian than anything from the Clovis or later periods known in the USA. Unlike the other alleged pre-clovis artifacts that have been found, these are unambiguous tools of a known prepared core technology known as "levallois" which has only been found in sites abroad up till now.
