Scicurious arrives!

Welcome to my new blog home at Science News!

Hello and welcome to the latest (and hopefully greatest) rendition of Scicurious!

For those wondering who and what I am, my name is Bethany Brookshire. I got my B.S. in biology and B.A. in philosophy at the College of William and Mary, my Ph.D. in physiology and pharmacology at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine and did a postdoc in Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. I’ve studied how drugs affect the brain, from cocaine to Prozac. And I had a great time doing it.

During my Ph.D. (waaay back in 2008), I started a blog under the pen name “scicurious”, writing about the good, bad and weird in physiology and neuroscience. After a stint at Scienceblogs, I moved to Scientific American in 2011 to write “The Scicurious Brain.” I love writing about science on the Internet, so much so that I have actually left academia altogether. Now, I’m thrilled to be here at Science News, where Scicurious will make its new home, and where I am the science education writer for Eureka! Lab at Science News for Students!

So keep an eye out! Here I’ll be talking about the goings-on in the world of neuroscience, as well as my other specialty: WEIRD science. So if you’re curious about the good, the bad and the weird in physiology and neuroscience, never fear, Scicurious is here!

You can contact me at scicurious@gmail.com, follow me on Facebook, and send me tweets at @scicurious

Bethany was previously the staff writer at Science News for Students. She has a Ph.D. in physiology and pharmacology from Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
