How do I know an invoice or renewal notice I've received is legit?
It has come to our attention that a number of unauthorized subscription agents are sending mail solicitations in an attempt to acquire new subscriptions and renewal orders for Science News. Many of the mailed notices have "Notice of Renewal/New Order" in the upper right-hand corner. These subscription agents are not approved to represent Science News, and may be offering Science News at a dramatically inflated price.
Please only renew through Society for Science & the Public or one of the authorized sellers of Science News listed below:

Science News and Society for Science & the Public limits its financial liability of all subscription orders to the amount received for the subscription order. For agency orders, our liability is limited to the amount a subscription agent remits to us for a subscription. If you choose to cancel your order during the course of your subscription, we will refund the value of the unfulfilled portion of your subscription directly to you unless your order is an agency order. In the case of agency orders, the value of the unfulfilled portion of your subscription order will be remitted directly to the subscription agency who remitted the order. Science News and Society for Science & the Public are not responsible for any damages, costs, or loss arising from a subscribers' transaction with subscription agents.
If you receive a subscription offer for Science News that doesn't originate directly from Science News or from the list of authorized subscription agencies noted above, we will not honor the subscription request. Furthermore, unauthorized agencies may charge you processing and other fees that are in addition to the subscription cost and that you would not otherwise incur if you purchased directly from Science News or an authorized agent.
Some Science News subscribers have recently received unauthorized “renewal notices.” These deceptive notices have been sent by independent solicitation companies without the approval of Science News or its publisher, Society for Science & the Public. Their renewal rates are generally higher than our usual rates. Companies operate under numerous names but might include Publisher Payment Center and Associated Publishers Service.
Any notice from Science News will always include our logo, refer to your account status and request that payments be made to our processing center in Kettering, Ohio. Checks should be payable to Society for Science & the Public. If you receive a notice that doesn't appear to be from Science News or an authorized agent, do not respond to it. If you have questions, call customer service at 800-552-4412 or e-mail email@example.com
