Divers found the Chan Hol 3 skeleton (skull pictured) in the same cave system where nine other human skeletons and ancient animal fossils have turned up. “The Tulum caves contain a bonanza of treasures for paleontology, archaeology and anthropology,” says Wolfgang Stinnesbeck of the University of Heidelberg in Germany, coauthor of a new paper describing the newfound skeleton.
