A composite image from the Gemini Multi-Object Spectrograph (GMOS) shows extraordinary detail of a spiral galaxy, NGC 628, 330 million light-years away. A new instrument on the Gemini North Telescope on Mauna Kea, Hawaii, GMOS will be

used primarily to resolve light spectra from distant objects such as galaxy clusters and supernovae.
